Childhood is a time of learning, a time for play, a time for exploring the world and all the possibilities it offers. Poverty in childhood has lasting life–long consequences. It is less likely that poor children have access to basic health care, education and food. If you want to help a child you can sponsor a child through World Vision India.

We seek to ensure the sustained well-being of all children living in poverty. Well-being for children is measured in terms of access to basic health care and appropriate education, children feeling protected and cared for and having opportunities in life. Studies show that poor children living in poverty are twice as likely to die in childhood. We aim to promote the lasting well-being of all children in the communities we serve. If you wish to help a child you can sponsor a child and support us to help the poor children in our communities.

Your support will provide a child with opportunities to access basic health care, quality education, good health, sanitation, access to clean drinking water, income generation programmes for their parents and much more. This gives a chance for children to experience a normal, healthy and happy childhood. You can help poor children have better opportunities in life. To help a child in need all you have to do is commit to sponsor a child with Rs. 800 every month.

Children who are born into poverty often drop out of school and start working as child labourers to support their families. A couple of years ago, Ruhi was stopped from going to school. Her parents decided that she need not study because she is a girl. “Our financial situation was terrible. All we could do was send our sons to school”, said Ruhi’s mother, Sayana.

Ruhi was persistent to go to school. “I often told them that I’ll earn money and pay the book and other material fees” she says.

It is a belief system in the society that it is okay if girl children work at home and do not study. Several poor children like Ruhi are caught in the cycle of poverty. Fortunately, with Ruhi’s family, World Vision India was able to convince them to send her to school. Ruhi has been going to school since June 2018 and she also attends classes at the remedial education centre run by World Vision India in the community.

After much persuasion and counselling from World Vision India, Sayana has now understood the importance of educating girls. Ruhi still works at home, helping her mother after she comes back from school. But Ruhi is relieved that she is at least able to go to school. Ruhi and her mother use beads to decorate dresses for women. They earn 3 rupees for each dress that they decorate and manage to decorate at least 5–10 dresses a day.

There are several children like Ruhi who need your help to break free from the bonds of poverty and have a happy childhood. To help a child in need all you have to do is connect with us and sponsor a child.

Child poverty and child labour are huge problems, yet depravity of the girl child is a hidden, overbearing concern lurking behind its shadow. Constant counselling and change in attitudes of parents towards the girl child can make a huge impact in the lives of girl children.

Commit to sponsor a child today and help a child have a better tomorrow!
